Pygmy Hippopotamus
Hey, I'm a Pygmy Hippopotamus, a smaller, more reclusive cousin of the common hippo. Unlike my larger relatives, I prefer to stay hidden in forests and am much less aggressive. My size and solitary nature make me special, along with my ability to glide through water with ease!
Habitat
I live in the forests and swamps of West Africa, primarily in Liberia, with small populations in neighboring countries.
How few of us are only existing
There are fewer than 2,500 of us left in the wild.
Why am I in trouble?
We're endangered due to deforestation, illegal hunting, and loss of habitat from human expansion. As our forests disappear, so do we.
